We were classmates back in the 90s at Columbia University's medical school, Columbia's Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. Jess was valedictorian of the class, and as you will hear, he has continued on to great achievements.

Dr. Ting grew up in New York City and attended the Juilliard School, studying the double bass. After going to medical school, he also went into plastic surgery.

Dr. Ting is an Assistant Professor at Mount Sinai's Icahn School of Medicine, where he has headed the groundbreaking Center for Transgender Medicine and Surgery. Dr. Ting and his team have performed more than two thousand operations, making it one of the busiest centers in the country.

For this work, Jess was recently featured in an award winning documentary, called Born to Be, directed by Tania Cypriano, which takes a close look at how his work impacts the lives of his patients as a pioneering gender-affirming surgeon, as well as his own transformation as a surgeon.
